Welcome! Stat-Xplore is an Open Data Platform (ODP) that is designed for users like you to explore the many different benefit datasets that the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) offers. This user guide explains everything you need to know to get the most out of Stat-Xplore. To start, please feel free to browse the sections on the left and pick the topic that is relevant to you. Additionally, you can follow the topic sections chronologically to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Stat-Xplore.

Login and Registration

You may have also seen the following homepage upon visitation of Stat-Xplore:

Logging in as a Guest User by clicking into the ‘Guest log in’ button means that you do not want to register/login for a Stat-Xplore account. However, please note that guest users have limited functionality compared to registered users.

Only registered users can:

• Save tables
• Create customised fields
• Create Large Tables

As such to access these features, simply click into the ‘Register for Stat-Xplore' button.

First Time?

If this is your first time to use Stat-Xplore, you may have already seen a notification for an interactive tour:

Clicking into this shows you a guided tour of Stat-Xplore's key features. This is recommended for first-time users and users who may want more guidance in understanding Stat-Xplore. However, if you missed the Stat-Xplore tour the first time around, you can find it at:

• Look to the top right-hand corner of the page
• Click on the Vertical Ellipsis(three Vertical dots)
• This will trigger a drop-down menu where you can then click the option named Tour

Troubleshooting – Help! I am Unable to Login Into my Account

If you enter the wrong login credentials, Stat-Xplore displays an error message. If you do this more than three times, your account may become locked. If this happens, don’t worry as your account should automatically unlock itself after 20 minutes of inactivity. If this does not happen for you, please contact us at Stat.Xplore@dwp.gov.uk to have your account unlocked.

Background Information

Stat-Xplore was created because it offers a fully self-service platform for interactive data dissemination and empowers users to ask any questions of the data rather than being limited to what DWP decide is relevant. Stat-Xplore is excellent in that it has robust security features for confidentiality and privacy protection. Given that Government bodies typically hold sensitive data on very vulnerable individuals, Stat-Xplore enables these bodies to share sensitive data in a safe way without compromising the privacy of their customers.

Additionally, Stat-Xplore is a big cost saving, efficient, and resource saving approach for the department that also adds a huge amount of value and flexibility for users.

For example, Stat-Xplore can:

• Make it more efficient and reduce the amount of work required to answer tough questions that the Parliament has about different benefits
• Answer any Freedom of Information (FOI) questions as mandated by the law
• Provide the media with detailed, accurate information when reporting news
