Filters and Wafers

This section will cover:

Introduction

In Stat-Xplore, filters and wafers both can be used to:

Filers and wafers are applied to affect all the variables within your table. As such, when you apply either a filter or a wafer on a table, only records that match will be included in the results.

Please have a look at the practical examples below as they explain the differences between filters and wafers.

Practical Example: Filters

For example, the following table has no filters applied. You can see that under the subtitle ‘Filters’ where it is the in the ‘Default Summation’ mode.

However, with the addition of a filter, the values in the table will now only count claimants who are ‘In Employment’. You can now see below that under the subtitle ‘Filters’ it has changed to add ‘Employment Indicator’ to reflect the filter being applied.

Additionally, while it is also possible to add multiple filters to a table, only records matching all the filters will be included in the table

Practical Example: Wafers

The difference between filter and wafer is that the latter allows you more control. With wafers, you can select from a drop-down menu which values within the field you want to apply.

For example, by adding the field ‘Region’ to the wafer, we can see how many and what specific regions is included in the drop-down menu.

  5. Click the ‘Retrieve Data’ button to see the difference.
  6. If you would like to apply more than one filter, repeat the steps above. However, please not that you can only add one field item from any given field.

Removing A Filter

To revert the filter applied, simple click the ‘X’ button next to the filter name located above the table as seen below.
