Large Tables (Advanced)

This section will cover:

Introduction

When creating a table in Stat-Xplore, if you attempt to create a table containing a very large number of cells, then Stat-Xplore will automatically enter ‘Large Table Mode’.

Stat-Xplore will then displays the following message:

Download format list

Once in the large table mode, you will no longer be able to use the ‘Retrieve Data’ button. This is because Stat-Xplore is unable to display tables over a certain cell count on the website itself. Instead, you can build the structure of the table and then download the data as a file. Once you have downloaded the file, that data within the table will be viewable inside of the file.

Building the Large Table Structure

While you are building the table, Stat-Xplore will display an excerpt of the full table. It also shows a message to indicate that you are working in large table mode:

Download format list

With this notification, you can continue working with your table to define its structure. For example, you can:

  • Selecting the fields you want to include in each axis
  • Choose whether to show percentages and totals
  • Choose whether to apply zero suppression

Queue Job Button

When you have finished creating the structure for your table,

  1. Select a download format from the Download Table drop-down menu located at the top right-hand corner.
  2. Click the ‘Queue Job’ button.
  3. Download format list

The function of the ‘Queue Job’ button is designed to run large jobs in the background. Your tabulation job will be queued for processing, and you will be able to download it when it is ready

  4. After you clicked ‘Queue Job’ button you will be then prompted to enter a table name to name/rename your table:

  6. Once you have supplied a table name, you will be returned to the Table View. Stat-Xplore will display a message indicating that your request is being processed:

Next Steps

To double check that you have created a large table, you can check the status of your query in the ‘Manage Tables’ option. Please wait around 30 seconds to allow the table to download before entering 'Manage Tables'.

  • Look at the top right-hand corner of the page, click on the Vertical Ellipsis (three Vertical dots) which will then triggers a drop-down menu where you can then click the option named ‘Manage Tables’.
  • Save or Open option button

Another useful function of Stat-Xplore is that you can also log out and come back later. Your query will continue running in the background and you can retrieve the results from the ‘Manage Tables’ option when you log back in Stat-Xplore.
