Welcome to Stat-Xplore
Stat-Xplore provides a guided way to explore DWP benefit statistics, currently holding data relating to a range of different benefits/programmes.
Using Stat-Xplore you can:
- Create customised tabulations.
- View results in interactive charts.
- Share outputs via social networking tools or download into common file formats.
The following video outlines some of the basic functionality available within Stat-Xplore (but note that not all the functionality is available unless you are a registered user, such as saving tables).
Important changes to Stat-Xplore releases following user consultation
A recent user consultation on GOV.UK proposed changes to the scheduling, alignment and frequency of some of DWP's routine administrative-based benefit Official Statistics.
Following the conclusion of the consultation and after consideration of user feedback, we have published the consultation outcome, which sets out the changes that will be made to a number of our Official Statistics releases on both GOV.UK and Stat-Xplore. Please note some change has already happened and are outlined here in terms of scheduling and frequency which impact on Stat-Xplore releases (please see the consultation outcome for further details on alignment and coverage of the statistics):
- The People on Universal Credit statistics are now released on a quarterly basis each May, August, November, and February in line with the existing UC statistics quarterly schedule. Individual month data points will continue to be available via Stat-Xplore but will only be released at quarterly intervals accompanying the quarterly statistical bulletin for Universal Credit statistics.
- The quarterly DWP Benefits Statistics and Benefit Combinations Statistics have moved to a single annual statistical release, with a name that reflects this change: 'Annual DWP Benefits Statistics Compendium'. This was published on 15 September 2026, and for Stat-Xplore this covers a range of individual benefit datasets (please see DWP Benefits Statistics ).
- The 'Employment and Support Allowance Work Capability Assessment' and 'Universal Credit Work Capability Assessments Statistics' were also released on 15 September (the latter has been renamed as 'UC Health Statistics'). Both releases have remained quarterly but have aligned with the release date of the 'Personal Independence Payment' statistics.
- The next publication of the 'National Insurance numbers allocated to non-UK overseas nationals' statistics will now be in September 2027.
Published and upcoming releases
The latest update to Stat-Xplore datasets was on 15th September 2026 and included newer data released for the Annual DWP Benefits Statistics Compendium, Universal Credit Health Statistics, Winter Fuel Payment, Personal Independence Payment, ESA Work Capability Assessments and Incapacity Benefit Reassessment statistics.
The next planned update to the site is scheduled for 22nd September 2026 at 9.30am. New data to be released will be for the Benefit Cap datasets.
For all upcoming announced publications please visit the upcoming statistics in our statistics release calendar page.
Stat-Xplore Service Update
We've recently experienced a number of intermittent issues affecting the Stat Xplore website. Following investigation and the application of fixes, we expect these issues to now be resolved.
We will continue to monitor the service closely. If you experience any further problems or unexpected behaviour, please contact us at Stat.Xplore@dwp.gov.uk with details of the issue so that we can investigate.
Thank you for your patience and support.
Consultation on Improving Stat-Xplore Functionality
During August and September we are inviting users to submit suggestions on how we could improve the functionality of the Stat-Xplore tool via stat.xplore@dwp.gov.uk. This could include new features or functionality to improve how users create or manipulate tables, or any other aspect of how the tool works, such as visualisations offered or improving user navigation around the tool. We will review all requests and consider potential implementation going forward.
Why should I register?
Registering is optional, free and allows you to:
- Save Tables - registered users can save bespoke breakdowns of available data and redefine existing breakdowns to suit their specific requirements.
- Queue Large Tables - registered users can 'queue' the creation of large tables and come back later to check progress and download the results.
- Customise Fields - create customised variations of fields available in Stat-Xplore datasets.
- Stay Updated - registering also allows us to contact you with news about Stat-Xplore (maintenance, improvements, expansion of data etc)
If you do not wish to register you can still access Stat-Xplore and will be able to produce tables. However, you will not be able to produce tables containing a large number of cells, which must be sent to a remote server for analysis, and then returned to the specific user making the request. Guest users will also experience reduced functionality compared to registered users such as the registration benefits listed above – these require an account to enable this enhanced level of functionality as these functions need a personal area to save bespoke customisations to, and a personal account to return processed large tables to.
