This page explains the privacy policy for DWP and how we will use and protect any information collected when you use Stat-Xplore.

How Stat-Xplore uses and collects information

Stat-Xplore uses administrative data and management information, collected and held by the Department for Work and Pensions for statistical purposes, to produce customised summary statistics.

To ensure that Stat-Xplore does not produce statistics that are likely to identify an individual all tabulations and visualisations are disclosure controlled.

This disclosure control also ensures that Stat-Xplore accords to the Code of Practice for Office Statistics and the supporting guidance ‘National Statistician’s Guidance: Confidentiality of Official Statistics’.

Information collected in Stat-Xplore

Users need to register with Stat-Xplore to use the:

enhanced functionality of this website (such as saving tables for reuse later, and queuing table creation)
detailed geographical and age breakdowns

When you register, we ask you for a small amount of information (your email address), necessary to create an account for you.

We will only use your user registration process information to:

provide you with access to those services
contact you about news about Stat-Xplore (maintenance time, improvements, expansion of data, etc) and for feedback on the system and potential enhancements – we will only do this if you give us explicit consent to email you (see Email Contact – opt-in section below)

All information we collect is kept completely confidential and we will not pass on any of your personal information on to any third parties.

Email Contact – opt-in

When you register, you will be asked if you want to receive emails from DWP about Stat-Xplore. DWP will only email you with news about Stat-Xplore, changes in the provision of services, any service-related updates which may affect your saved tables, or for feedback on the system and potential enhancements. Emails will be sent as frequently as needed, whenever there are specific issues to alert you to.

If you choose to receive emails from DWP about Stat-Xplore, you can change your mind and opt out at any time by following the link on the Manage My Account page.

Other information collected

DWP monitors use of this website:

in order to improve the site and the website services provided to you
for statistical purposes.

To do this we will collect information about:

your ip address
the date and time of your visit
the pages you accessed and documents downloaded
the top level domain name (such as .com .gov etc.)
your network location name (such as internet services provider or organisation’s name)

For registered users we also collect the:

time and date you registered
time and date of any profile updates

We want Stat-Xplore to be easy to use, useful and reliable. This sometimes involves placing small amounts of information on your device, for example, computer or mobile phone. These small files are known as cookies. They cannot be used to identify you personally.

These pieces of information are used to improve services by, for example:
