Database: Households on Universal Credit

Field: Measures

Description

Stat-Xplore contains three measures - the count of Universal Credit households, the average (mean) monthly award amounts and the average (mean) RSRS reduction amount. A table must contain at least one of these measures.

Count

Count is the number of households whose entitlement to Universal Credit has been calculated for an assessment period covering a given point in time.

Mean of Monthly Amount

This is the average monthly Universal Credit award (in pounds) received by households for an assessment period covering a given point in time.

The mean is calculated by summing all the household UC awards, and then dividing by the number of households whose awards were summed. By default, households with a nil award are automatically included in the mean, lowering the average award. To show the mean award of households actually receiving a Universal Credit payment, the data should be filtered by the payment indicator, so that only households with an award are included.

Mean RSRS reduction

This is the mean average Removal of Spare Room Subsidy (RSRS) amount (in pounds) received by households for an assessment period covering a given point in time.

The mean is calculated by summing all the RSRS reduction amounts, and then dividing by the number of households whose reduction amounts were summed. Only households with 1 or more spare bedrooms are included when taking the mean. Any households with zero spare bedrooms or in the not applicable or not available category are not included when calculating the mean. This ensures that the mean reduction is taken across households with at least 1 spare bedroom.
